Charlie Anderson (tenor/baritone) - 40's, 50's, farmer and family leader
Jenny Anderson - 19 yr. old daughter, tom-boy, attractive
Robert Anderson - approx. 12 yrs old - youngest son
Sam - non-singing role - Jenny's suitor
Gabriel - approx. 12 yr old black boy, a slave and charming friend of Robert
Anne Anderson - wife of son James - beautiful and mature (approx. 26)
James Anderson - 2nd oldest son, strong, handsome
Jacob Anderson - oldest son
Nathan Anderson - approx. 22
Henry Anderson - approx. 17
Reverend Byrd - preacher
Corporal (tenor) - has solo
